Heidemarie Burke - Ice Skating Competition

As a child I loved roller-skating and loved the sensation of moving.  While living in upstate New York, a friend lent me her ice skates to try skating on Canada Lake behind their house.  The skates fit, and I loved it.  I then bought ice skates at K-Mart for the kids and me, and we skated on Caroga Lake and the flooded parking lot next to it.  Thirty years later, I visited Germany.  My granddaughter wanted to go to an indoor ice skating rink.  The rented skates were uncomfortable.  But I didn't fall and thought "heck, I can still do this"!

The March issue of PPA Magazine features an image of our President, Gigi O'Dea.  This image, Winter's Wonder, was photographed in Gigi's home studio during a client's first birthday session.  Because it was close the holidays, Gigi did a winter-themed image for the client's holiday card.  The child's soulful eyes were framed in a fur hat and coat.  In addition to the coveted cover of PPA Magazine, this image has been chosen for this year's loan collection.  Gigi's studio, Memory Portraits, specializes in newborn and infant photography.

Around the Bay...

I started skating at Germain Arena in Bonita Springs near our Time Share.  While there, one of the older skaters told me about lessons for adults.  After making some progress, my friend Carol suggested we both enter ice skating competition.  We started participating in the rink shows.  It has been seven years since I started.  I also added yoga to my regimen which helps with me with my ice skating.
